Finally finished this thing after nearly a month of cutting clamping, painting and cutting. As usual, I used an old computer book as the base. Colored with my steel/vinegar mixture, the cover is covered with thinned white glue coated tissue paper. The metal trim is made from sheet plastic, treated with textured paint, then a thick layer of Sophisticated Finishes rust surfacer. the rust streaks are simply orange and brown acrylic.
The inside is hollow, so it can be used as a costume prop at conventions, and will allow me to carry small objects, phone, wallet, pocket program, etc around with me.
My favorite feature is the tiny magnet I buried under the surface of the books spine to hold the key in place.
